Is the Refuge Institute a school?
No. The Refuge Institute is a research institute rooted in cinematic creation. It has no permanent offices, offers no certified training, and awards no film-industry diplomas. Instead, it creates collective cultural works for public release, centered on film projects produced in collaboration with the residents of a given area.
Does the Institute accept interns?
The Institute expects to welcome up to five interns from September 2027 (to be confirmed). The desired profiles will focus on sound production (podcasts), development of the Atlas of Stories digital platform (GIS, 3D animation, graphic design), illustration, and communication (community management).
How can I take part in a film shoot?
To participate in a shoot, you need to be a member of the Institute, except for volunteers recruited for specific skills. Film projects are chosen each year through a collective vote of the members, and participants are then matched to roles within the film crew according to their interests and skills.
Can I propose a film idea?
Yes! Film projects can be proposed during the annual project-selection phase. Proposals must hold heritage value, be rooted in a real local story, and grow out of the local community. Projects that meet these criteria are put to the voting members that year, together with the ideal format.
How can I contribute to the Institute's development?
The Institute welcomes contributions from its members at any time of year: publishing an article, writing a post-shoot report, leading a film workshop, or organizing an event. If you have an idea, don't hesitate to get in touch!
